UNDERSTANDING THE VARIOUS PARTS OF YOUR FLAGPOLE

As a flagpole owner, you should understand the various parts of your flagpole. It will help you sound more confident and savvy when you’re talking about it. You can say “adjust the halyard” instead of “bring down the thingy”. Solid knowledge of your flagpole can also help you take better care of it. You can inspect it with more accuracy, and know what parts need repair and replacement. Most of these parts come in a Flag pole kit, even if you purchased telescoping flagpoles.

The highest part of a flagpole is the flagpole ball. In some flagpoles, the balls are replaced flagpole eagles. Flagpole balls are rumored to have military significance. However, these days, they are mainly for decorative purposes.

Below the ball is the truck. The flagpole truck is a pulley assembly that is mounted at the top of the pole.It holds the finial in place and usually includes the pulley. The halyard is attached to the pulley. The flagpole pulley is what enables you to hoist the flag. As you pull downthe rope, it redirects the force and lifts the other end of the rope and the flag upwards. The rope is also known as the halyard.

The flag is attached to the halyard by the flag snap. The flag snap is also called the snap hook and is usually made of metal or vinyl. It has a spring closuresimilar to the ones you find on a dog’s leash. The halyard channel is just like its name suggests. It covers and protects the halyard.

The halyard is held in place and close to the flag pole by the cleat. The halyard is usually wrapped several times around the cleat which is located 4-5 feet about the butt. The butt is usually the lowest visible point on the flag, right below the shaft. The butt is also the widest part of the flagpole.

The flash collar protects the buried part of the pole from rain and other elements. It has the added benefit of making the pole appear clean and finished, and is made from the same material as the flagpole.

What makes large poles necessary

The composition of the flagpole will be an important factor in selecting a flagpole. We offer both Aluminium and fiberglass flagpoles. Our high pressure fiberglass flagpoles are made using an innovative high strength method. Inside a steel clamshell mold, seven layers of reinforced fiberglass roving are mixed with a polyester resin and aligned in a vertical plane for maximum strength and then placed on a thick layer of gel coat. An inflatable bladder is laid the length of the mold. The mold is closed, the bladder inflated and the resulting pole is created by subtle inside pressure and slow curing during an exothermic chemical reaction. The result is a lightweight, strong, slender and graceful flagpole. So strong in fact, that tensile strength is 50,000 pounds per square inch. Each pole is rated to withstand wind speeds of 120 mph.

The wall thickness of the flagpole is the major factor in determining how strong a flagpole is, and how susceptible to wind it is. Furthermore, if you plan to erect your flagpole close to the ocean, the salty air may interact with an aluminium pole, whereas a fiberglass pole is not conducive to the corrosive nature of the salty environment. Fiberglass flagpoles should be strongly considered in regions with acidic rain and any immediate area surrounding a factory with substantial emissions, due to corrosion.

Although all countries in the world use flags and flagpoles in some capacity to show pride and patriotism, some countries truly take the act of flag waving to the next level. Other recent years, a friendly competition has emerged between countries who want to establish the world's largest flagpole. Currently, the Jeddah Flagpole, in the city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, holds the number one spot, reaching a staggering height of 170 meters (560 feet). It overtook the Dushanbe Flagpole, which was formerly the world's tallest, in 2014. However, Saudi Arabia is not the only country to have a flagpole that reaches great heights. These giant flagpoles are actually found all over the world. We looked way, way up high to develop a list of the world's tallest flagpoles.

SIMPLE THINGS YOU CAN DO TO EXTEND THE LONGEVITY OF YOUR FLAG/FLAGPOLE

People fly flags for a variety of reasons. Sometimes, it's because you love your country and you want to show your patriotism and devotion. On the other hand, you may be a diplomat who flies your country's flag in a foreign land. Military organizations fly their flags to both to symbolize patriotism, and to inform unwary persons that they are entering into a military space. Hotels fly flags for an entirely different reason. Several countries' flags usually adorn the fronts of hotels.

They do this to symbolize that their doors are open to all people, and that they are willing to serve anyone who walks through their doors. Commercial organizations often use flagpoles for an entirely different set of reasons. Flagpoles could also serve as advertisement banners for their offers. They could also be used to inform the public of their products and services.

Flagpoles are a significant financial investment, as many of them cost a pretty sum. Because of this, they deserve adequate maintenance. If you have a flagpole on top of building, you may need to get a professional to look at it every once in a while. Besides that however, there are fairly simple things that you can do to maintain your flagpole, and extend its longevity.

Maintaining your flagpole begins with getting a proper flag. Ideally, you should get a quality flag material that is resistant to UV rays. This will prevent it from fading too quickly. Although if you get the right material you don't need to worry about bad weather. However, it is a good idea and proper flag etiquette to lower your flag in severe and fowl weather.

Ideally, you should call a professional flagpole service to do the things you can't, like reaching the top of the flag, disassembling and oiling the cleats, and even inspecting the ball and truck at the top of the flagpole. There are flagpoles that are over a hundred years old and still standing. This is because they are made of quality steel, and have been maintained properly over the years. While your flagpole may not last that long, it is still a good idea to take proper care of it.

Make your flag brighter by the solar flagpole lighting

When your flag poles are hoisted all around the clock it is necessary to have lighted form them. At those, you can use solar flagpole lighting and choose them waterproof since they have to meet any of the climatic conditions. Here are certain things that you have to consider when you choose to light for your flagpole.

The brightness of the light

The important goal that you choose the lighting is that you have to illuminate your flag pole. As the solar lighting, you may vary with the brightness that depends on the number of LED bulbs present in them. This also gives warmer and softer light to your flag. When it is a custom flag you can also choose the color according to your design.

The appearance of the light

They come with different size and styles it is up to you to choose the right one according to the nature of your flag. Also, look where they have to be mounted so that you can choose them that the lights are completely focused on the flag.

The capacity of the solar cells

The solar cells are the one that absorbs solar energy to work the work. The quality of the cells implies the working of the light. The size also has to be included in the picture because the smaller cells will not absorb sufficient energy for a long time working.

Size of the flag and the flag pole

When the flag is smaller in size the light can be small and the radius it extends can also be smaller. The compatibility also can be easier in the flagpole. It is better to design appropriately even before you choose the flag.

Lights are something that adds more beauty for your flag and you need to have them according to the nature of your flag pole. When using the option of custom flags and design your own flag it is necessary to design the features of the light as well. Let your flag fly with bright light and colors.

Slopy areas

Do not leave your flagpole on the ground when you buy it or get its delivery. Raise it or locate it as soon as you can avoiding the flagpole lying on the ground. Don’t keep it flat on the ground, keep it in standing position with the largest flagpole till installing the flagpoles.

Hole size

Do not dig a hole so small for your flagpole as it must be four-time bigger than the pole’s diameter with high depth in such a way that the flagpole ground base gets touch with the surface tightly and firmly. Don’t use sand or mud for filling the sleeve, replace it with the rocks.

Mixed Cement

Restrict the use of ready-made-mixed cement and replace it with regular cement which will get dry automatically on its own. Do not fix the position of the sleeve without ensuring the concrete level filling. Also, do not add very much amount of cement for avoiding the overflow of it.

Extensions

Large and tall flagpoles which are up to 40 feet or above in height with inserting the ground sleeve of a flagpole on the end with avoiding the extension which can be displayed above ground. Make sure you cut it for making it fit and clean, this is the reason for not forcing the extension in the ground.

Tower Climbing - Maintaining the installed wired materials

Tower climber performs the action of hauling materials and tools up to the proper installation in the height of the tower. The climber will perform the routine action of inspecting the broadcasting towers and testing the quality to provide repair on the system. Tower climbing is to provide the development on the input for new equipment’s.

Tower climber will demand the aspect of money to climbing on the different towers by the base of a height of the tower and the wired system on the tower. Professional tower climber will use the climbing scales and security options before climbing on the tower.

Hazardous in the climbing

Tower climbers and flagpole climber will face the hazardous as injured or killed by falling objects, May sometimes the collapses in the structural things. The equipment failures will also create a danger for the climber. They use the rope to tie on their body and the ground crew member will hold the rope from the lower.

Electrical hazards and the great height hazards are associated with the personnel and base-mounted equipment collapse will occur in hoisting. Tower worker and flagpole climber will haul the rope and materials to check their stability.

Work nature

Flexibility is the necessary quality need from the tower worker and pole climber. They have to travel short and far distance from home to repair and installing the tower. Flagpole climbing work will be best to enjoy traveling and also the most dangerous profession in outdoor.

Benefits for the climbers

Many organizations provide the company vehicle and types of equipment to the worker’s responsibility. Traveling allowance and the distances measure of the nature of the job will be added on the allowance cost.

The company will pay for the food and the benefits of medical and dental allowances are included in the insurance of the employee offered by the organization. Flagpole climbing is the most adventurous thing to perform. Ensure the safety items and height of the pole according to the climber weight. They are risking life in the limb hundreds of feet to provide the royalty and respect for the flags.
