Flagpoles can be easily reached to raise the flag. A cord is used
to wind a pulley at the top of the pole, the ends attached to the bottom. The
flag is attached to the lower end of the cord and raised by pulling on the
other end. The cord should be tight and attached to the pole at the bottom. Different types of flags are equipped with
hardware and bindings that keep them taut
in the most difficult conditions. The
flags are double stitched with pliers or eyelets and have a rope through the
sleeves.
Flagpoles
are usually
surmounted by a flat plate or ball, called a truck, designed to prevent a
wooden pole from cracking or presenting a more complex shape. These are
typically high flag posts that may require more complex support structures than
a single post, such as wires, or can be constructed as a mast. They are
designed in several pieces to be enlarged or can be made with a single piece of
steel cone.
