5 basic design tips for a sport flag

High Schools, Colleges, and Universities in the United States take pride in their athletics programs. Few are even prouder than the basketball teams and the friends and families that support them. We’ll be discussing in the article 5 basic tips for your advertising banner stand out more.

Leave room

You should make plans ahead! Ensure you leave enough space in-between the player’s names and stats. Doing this will give room for writing long player names without having to squeeze them in or break their names in two lines. A line of text that has a different typographic treatment than the others would make your team stand out in a bad way.

Track the stats and reconfirm
Every sport has different yardsticks to grade the achievement of an athlete. The common stats track the total career point of a player, a player with 1,000 points or more; or individual awards such as MVP winners. Some sports flag honor players that play professionally or participated in the Olympics.

Go big
Keep in mind that sport flags may be viewed from the other side of the playground. People in the stands shouldn’t have to squint before they can read or see your flag clearly. Make the flag nice and really BIG so the texts would be large and easy to read from a distance.

Color and contrast
Colors should be chosen wisely. Two major benefits of being specific on your color choice are- choosing colors that are part of the school’s brand gives the team and the school a sense of identity and belonging. The second is for the sake of readability. Choosing colors with low contrast makes the texts difficult to read.

Applique/hybrid
Avoid fully printed flags or banners. An applique banner gives room for the addition of new players and stats as time goes on and it pleasing to the eyes. Though, there are limitations to applique e.g. designs with extremely small details can’t be appliqued. That’s where hybrid comes in as an alternative.
